Tuesday 2nd February
Got to mums at 7.45am. When we got there mum had a chair in front of the garden back door as she said that she couldn't find the key, when we looked she had the key on the other side of door (outside) gave mum her breakfast and her medications, mum was quite good today, helped her have a bath, changed her sheets while John hoovered and polished
In the afternoon Val phoned from Social Services from Wednedsay 10th a carer will get to mums at 10.15am and get her ready and take her to Bowels Lodge, Valley Travel will bring her home,
I asked her about what we should do when the time comes when mum needs to go into a care home, she said we contact them and they come and reassess mum to see what care she needs, she said that it was OK to start getting info from homes but things may change regarding what care mum needs but when looking on internet for look for *E.M.I care.
If we need to phone Social Services ask for the duty officer and they will deal with any problems .
*E.M.I stands for Elderly Mental Ill or in firmed
3rd February 2010
I had a phone call from Bett (mums friend) to say that mum went into her in the morning, she had no shopping bag but her purse and umbrella in her hand and she said that she was going shopping to Budgens, Bett said to her 'but you haven't got a shopping bag' mum said that she could put her shopping it in that..pointing to her umbrella.
She asked Bett where she could get knickers in the village, Bett told her that there was no where in village that she could get any and it would be best to ask me when she sees me (I don't think that she meant knickers I think she was trying to think of something else but I don't know what it is)
4th February 2010
I phoned mum to say that we would be over later, she said that she couldn't get the TV to work and it must have been the men working in the house that broke it.(there hadn't been any workmen in the house but there were some builders building houses opposite her house)
When we got over to her John found out that she had taken the plug out of the wall. When I checked her purse she didn't have a lot of money left, we checked all her shopping receipts and had a quick add up and think that it worked out OK (she had paid £13 for a bottle of wine!!)
She had two skirts on and when I tried to get her to take one off she said she needed two on in case it rained !!
We popped over to see her brother Dib as it was his birthday and he said that yesterday the carer phoned to say that mum didn't have any hot water, when he checked it the boiler had been turned off, mum must have done it but she swears it wasn't her.so we had to put tape on the switch so that she couldn't switch it off at all.
6th February 2010
Got to mum at 9.30am I did a few bits for her she asked John what we were doing today and he said 'Not a lot' so she said 'Are you going to take me out?' she didn't know what she wanted to do so we took her to Notcutts at Pembury then she came back to us for lunch, she wanted to go home at 2pm as she was very tired, noticed in the carers book that when they came in the evening she was in bed at 5pm
Arrived at mums just before 8am got her breakfast for her and gave her medications, helped mum have a bath, John hoovered all over and dusted
As it was very cold we went to shop in the car, when I tried to get mum to put her gloves on she threw them in the washing basket and said 'I don't want to wear them' I got her to wear them in the end,
When we got back I sorted a bit of washing and made sure her TV was on and got her some lunch before going. I reminded her that a carer was coming for her in the morning to get her ready and take her to Bowles Lodge. Both John and I think that she thinks she is going somewhere else as she is being picked up.
Wednesday 10th February
When mum came back from Bowles Lodge day care centre she went to her brothers house and ask him 'Where is everyone at my house' he asked mum what she meant mum said that there isn't anyone in, he said 'You live on your own now Ann' and she said 'I know that'!
She also said to him that when the carer dropped her at Bowles Lodge she asked her why they were stopping there as she wasn't going there today! She was convinced that she was going somewhere else. Dib (her brother) took her home and got her a cup of tea, when he was leaving Deena the carer arrived.
Thursday 11th February 2010
I tried to phone mum several times to tell her that we may not be able to get over as we had had lots of snow in the night and it was still snowing, got the engaged signal for a long time when I did get through to her Deena the carer answered and she assured me all was OK she was late getting to mum as she had to walk to mums as roads were so bad, she said that mum didn't have any heating, she had phoned Dib and he was on his way over she gave the phone to mum who was very grumpy she said 'I've been waiting for you, where are you' I tried to tell her about the snow and she said 'I know it's snowing' she then dropped the phone and Deena picked it up and finished the call for mum.
I waited for a while and phoned mums sister-in-law (Daph) , Mum had turned off the boiler in the outhouse again, she thought it was the outside light. Dib taped the switch on so that she cannot do it again
Phoned mum to see how she was at 1.30pm, I told her that we wouldn't be able to get over until tomorrow because of the weather and she said 'well I hope you do' (I felt really guilty) I asked her if it was warm now that the boiler was back on she said that it was much warmer now and how did I know about it. I told her I had spoken to Deena as she was late today and still there when I phoned, she said 'that was yesterday!' and then 'who is Deena' she said to me that's not her name, the conversation got very disjointed after that, I told her that she would be seeing another carer later, and that they would get her dinner and she said that there was no need as she would get it herself. I told her that I see her tomorrow. she was really grumpy and said 'Well I hope so'.
Friday February 12th
We called into mum , she was just about to go up to the shop but we had to persuade her not too as it was very very icy, she said that the picture of that 'bloke' on the wall keeps moving (the picture was of a small flower)
Saturday February 13th
Mum phoned in the morning in a very confused state, a few letters had arrived and she was really upset about them and would I go quickly and sort them out, when we got to her she was waiting by the door and gave me the letters, one was an appointment for her to see Dr Asprey ( as I had asked for copies of appointment to be sent to me I all ready knew about the appointment) and the other two were about her pension credit, I told her I would sort them out, she just kept asking me about the letters and got really agitated about them.
Mum had also lost her back door key had to hunt everywhere for it finally it was found in a drawer in her outhouse.
