Welcome to my blog. My name is Lizzie and this is a diary of my Mums dementia, the people who I mention in my entries are John my husband, Michael my brother, Teresa my sister and Dib and Daph who are mums brother and sister-in-law.... It has been a hard struggle and I have written a diary all through every step of her progress deeper into the illness.

Monday 5th December - 30th December 2011

Monday 5th December 2011

Daphne phoned from the care home to say that mum had another tumble today, she was found on the floor in the room opposite, she had been rummaging through the drawers in the room, she had found a nightie and put it in the bin.  Daphne thinks she had tried to sit on the bed and slipped down onto the floor. She had been to the Christmas entertainment this afternoon and had a glass of wine, so that may have been some of problem.  I asked her if mum was OK and she said that mum was now ready for bed and in her chair watching her TV (she has a small mark on her back and mark on her face)

I told Daphne that we would be in to see mum tomorrow.

Daphne said that she had put her slippers on top of the wardrobe as they were very worn and the bottom was hanging off and could we get her a new pair

Tuesday 6th December

Mum was having her hair done when we got to the care home, so we went up to her and she saw us and said 'Oh hello, how did you know?' I assumed she meant how did we know she was there, I told her that Tina had told us, she said 'who'.

We took her down to her room and put her TV on for her, she looked very well and happy, we sat and watched TV with her and also chatted, well she was talking to the TV.  I asked her if Michael has been into see her, she said 'he's dead, isn't he?' I told her that 'No' he was fine and not dead! she said 'Oh! good'

We walked her along to the dining room, she stopped to talk to the chap who does the maintenance jobs, she said hello to him and he told us that mum talks to him every time she sees him.

We got a nice phone of her with Karen, her favourite carer.

There is a new lady called Daisy who mum seems to be friendly with, we left her sitting with Daisy at the dining room table waiting for her lunch.

They have entertainment this afternoon (Trevor the guitarist, who, we were told,  is going to serenade them!)

I text Teresa and told her that mum had a tumble and that we had been in today and she was fine.

Wednesday 7th December

I phoned and ordered 2 new pairs of slippers for mum, they are being delivered to her at the care home, they will put her name in them for us.

Friday 9th December

Phoned and spoke to Jasmine and told her that mum would be getting a parcel through the post and that they would be her new slippers so would they open it and give them to mum and could they throw mums old slippers away.

Tuesday 13th December

We saw mum through the window, she was in the dining room, by the time we got in there she was looking out of the window, she seemed well but kept yawning, she was with Betty and Daisy (the new lady).

We sat in the dining room for a while, it felt like we were in some other world, all three were chatting about something different but were quite happy.  We took her along to her room so we could have some quiet time with her.  She wanted to go to the loo, so I took her, I had to go and find some dry padded knickers, it was quite a job getting them on her.  When Karen came in I got her to check that I had got them on the right way round!

We stayed with her for a couple of hours, she was tired, so we left her in her room watching TV.

Her new slippers had arrived and they fitted OK .

Tuesday 20th December

Mum was sitting in the chair at the end of the corridor, she was pleased to see us, we took her into her room and helped her open some Christmas cards and a couple of presents from her friend Bett, she was interested at first but soon lost interest.

Daphne came in to do mums eye drops and said that her left eye had been red and sore, the doctor came in and saw her and prescribe some eye ointment.  we stayed with her for a couple of hours and left her watching TV, she was quite content.

On Monday we had seen Charlie and he said that he has been into see mum and had given her a big box of chocolates.  There wasn't any sign of them, he had given them to her in the dining room so she had probably shared them with everyone.

Left a copy of the photo of mum and Karen for Karen when she is next on duty.

Saturday 24th December

We saw Tina on the way into see mum, she said that mum had another upset tummy, they had noticed that she had been eating a lot of chocolates and sweets so they had put them all on top of her wardrobe. (the chocolates that Charlie had taken in to her had been put in the staff cupboard!)

Mum was in her room watching TV, she was pleased to see us.  I took her a couple of little presents to open but she wasn't really interested in them.

She asked John why he was there and he told her that he had come to see her, she looked at me and said 'what did you bring her for?' she did giggle, so hope that she didn't mean it..

Laura and John came in and they bought Sasha (their dog) in with them, she was pleased to see them all, she enjoyed us all being there and at one time put us in our place when we were all talking and said, 'don't forget I'm here as well'.

We left about 12.30 and walked her along to the dining room, her friend Daisy asked her where she had been, and said to mum 'you are my friend'.

Friday 30th December

Mum in her room, we took Herbie (the dog) in with us today, she was pleased to see him and kept asking us his name, he sat on her lap for a while and she grabbed hold of his tail.

She was really muddily today, she kept asking us where we lived and said that she could come to our house, we told her that we lived a long way away and that the last time she came she was very travel sick.

We stayed a couple of hours and left her in her room.

Monday 7 April 2014

Tuesday 1st November - Monday 28th November 2011... Mums health starting to go downhill

Tuesday 1st November 2011

Mum was in the lounge watching TV when we arrived, she didn't know who we were at first but got very excited when she finally realised.  She looked very pale and was very muddily, she rambled a lot today.

Jessica was ranting and raving about 'that woman' had hit her with a magazine, she said that she's in there with her daughter, I realised that she meant me and mum.  I asked Tina if something had happened and she told me that Jessica was talking about mum, apparently mum and Jessica had been arguing and mum had hit her with the magazine she had been holding in her hand, she said that Jessica had been causing a lots of problems and was being moved onto a new home tomorrow.  Mum had never liked her as she had upset mum the first time they had met.  The incident had to be put in the 'incident book' made me smile to think of mum in the 'naughty' book.

Mum wouldn't be seeing the doctor until Thursday, Tina said that she would definitely see him then, she was happier today although she had another upset tummy last night.

I was talking to Tina, who is in charge this week as Daphne on holiday, she was very stressed, I asked her what she thought of the home and she said that she had worked for several but Park View was the best one, I told her that I was impressed with how many staff they had on in each shift as other homes we had looked at only seemed to have a couple of staff on at any one time.

We walked mum along to the dining room so she could get seated at the table for lunch.  We told her we would see her later and she was quite happy when we left.

Left a message on Teresa's phone about mum not seeing the doctor until Thursday.

Phoned Daph and she said that they would go in either Thursday or Friday and would phone me and let me know how she was.

Thursday 3rd November

Phoned to see if mum had seen the doctor, Tina told me that he is going to put mum on high energy drinks to try and build her up, he is not sure why she is still upset as they had done tests and all were normal, he suggested getting the dietitian in to sort out a diet for mum, Tina said that she would talk to Daphne on Monday, when she is back from her holiday, about the dietitian.

Tina said that she was fine and quite happy.

Friday 4th November

Daph phoned, they had been into see mum she said that they had sat around the table with Britt, Joyce and Betty, she was well but quite muddily, she had talked a lot, she couldn't remember that we had been in to see her on Tuesday, when Daph mentioned John, she asked her who he was and she told her that he was my husband, she looked surprised and said 'is she married then?'.

She is not on energy drinks yet, as waiting for the prescription to come from the chemist.

Tuesday 8th November

Mum was at the hairdressers having a perm, so we went up to see her, Elaine was just rinsing the perm solution of and rolling mums hair up, so when she had finished she put a scarf over the rollers so that we could take mum down to the dining room. We met Karen, who was just bringing one of the other ladies up to have her hair done, so she helped us take mum down in the lift, which was quite a feat, as we couldn't get her into it, she was very wobbly and we couldn't get her to step in, it took quite a few times before we finally got her in..

When we got back to the unit she asked us if she was in Hawkhurst, we told her that she was! She was very muddled and rambling today and her attention span was almost nil! it was a very hard visit as she kept looking out of the window.  She asked me where her mum was and I told her that she wasn't with us anymore, she just said 'Oh' and then asked me where my mum was, I told her that she was my mum she just laughed and said 'am I'.

Just after 12 we took her back up to the hairdresser and told her that we would see her later.

I found it a hard and depressing visit today.  I had a word with Daphne, she said that mum is not liking her energy drinks but they are encouraging her to have them, when I said about what Tina said about the dietitian, she said that the doctor has to arrange that.  Tina told me that she had eaten a jam sandwich for her breakfast and she did nibble at 2 biscuits and had half a cup of tea while we were there.. I will not let this go, every time we visit or are in contact I will badger and ask about mums appetite, they must not ignore it, she has lost a lot of weight and we are worried about it.

Friday 11th November

We went in for a quick visit, we took in some bits for the Christmas fair and left some cash for mum..  We took Herbie with us to see her, he was a hit with all the old ladies and mum was pleased to see him, she looked a lot brighter than she did on Tuesday.  Daphne told us that the doctor had seen her yesterday and had taken her off of the antibiotics that she has been taking for her UTI's also the Omeprazole, as they can both cause tummy upsets, she told me that she had eaten something.  She had her lunch in her room and I got her to eat a little of it,  JJ said that if she had been left on her own she wouldn't have eaten anything, as she hadn't got a clue how to use the knife and fork... we left just after 1.30pm, Justina took mum some pudding (jam sponge and custard) I expect that she will eat that..!!!

Wednesday 16th November

Mum was having tea and biscuits when we arrived, she was pleased to see us and looked much better, her speech has got a lot worse and it was hard to understand what she was trying to say to us.  JJ managed to make her laugh a few times.  We stayed for a couple of hours.

I had a phone call from Teresa to say that mum has had a fall and that she was fine, she is going in to see her on Friday and would let me know how she is.  Michael is going in at the weekend. She will be away next week.

Thursday 17th November

I phoned and spoke to Tina, she said that mum had a fall in the corridor and that she has a small bruise on her bottom. Mum said that her legs had crossed! Tina joked with mum asking her 'what are you doing down there Annie' mum just laughed, she said that mum was in good spirits and was eating well and they are keeping an eye on her.

Tuesday 22nd November

We are were going to taking Bett in with us today but she had phoned to say that she wasn't very well, she was going to take in some birthday presents in with her for mum.  I told her that we would pick them up from her on Thursday and take them in when we go in on Friday, which is her birthday.

Mum was in her room watching TV, Tina told us that she didn't want to go anywhere else today, she looked tired but was pleased to see us, although, until I bent down to kiss her she didn't realise it was me.  I took her in some homemade cakes and she manage to eat half of one.  Daphne came in with some post that was addressed to mum and asked if Teresa had told me that mum had another UTI and that she was on antibiotics again  (I didn't know anything about it).

While I was in the loo the doctor, nurse and Daphne came in. The doctor just looked at mum and said nothing and walked back out again!.  I went and caught him in the corridor and asked him about mum, he said that mum was on a course of antibiotics and when she has finished those she will then got on a maintenance dose of antibiotics (  I don't feel very impressed with the home doctor).

Mum was very tired, we watched some TV with her and left about 12ish.

Thursday 24th November

Phoned to see how mum was, I spoke to Daphne, she said that mum was a lot better and that she had eaten a dinner and a pudding, I told her that I didn't think that we would be able to get in to see her tomorrow and she told me that she would get the chef to make mum a birthday cake.

Monday 28th November

Mum was in the dining room, I suggested we go to her room as she had some presents to open, if we had stayed in the dining room all the others would have wanted to open then and we wanted mum to open them herself.  Her TV was on and her table was missing.  Mervyn came in with a cup of tea for her, so I asked him if he could find mum another table.

We put her cards on her window sill and helped her open her presents, she had a nice tin of biscuits, which we opened and she had one with her tea, she had also been given some chocolate eclairs which I thought she would have trouble eating but she happily chewed one.

Peggy (one of the residents) came wondering into mums room, she was still in her nightie which had porridge all down the front of it, we couldn't get her to go, so I went and asked Daphne if someone could help us with her, she was quite 'off' with me and told me that everyone was busy! Karen was on her tea break, Mervyn was doing the teas and Tina was at a training class... I was a little cross and told her 'don't worry, I'll get Mervyn'  I went into the dining room and Karen was there, she came back with me and took Peggy off.

We closed the door and sat with mum watching TV, she seems to think that she knows everyone on the screen, she was very happy but rambling.  I find it very upsetting that she finds it so difficult to communicate now,  it must be so frustrating for her.

We took her along to the dining room before we left so that she could have her lunch, she was quite happy when we left.

We both feel that the atmosphere has changed in the home the last couple of visits, the staff all seem to be discontented.

Sunday 23 March 2014

Sunday 2nd October - Monday 31st October 2011.. Mum suffering from Upset Tummy

Sunday 2nd October 2011

Michael picked me up at 1.30pm and we went and picked Teresa up, we finally got to mum at 3pm, it confused mum that we were all there together, she looked at me and asked me where Horace was (she meant JJ).

We took her to her room and Karen got her changed and ready for us to take her out, she was pale and red eyed when we got there but cheered up while we were out, we took her to the Outlet centre.  Michael pushed her around in the wheelchair, she enjoyed looking in the shop widows and watching all the people walking by. We stopped at a cafe and sat outside and she had some cake (only managing to eat half of it) and a cup of tea, she only managed to drink a little, the rest she threw on the ground, we were glad that we had sat outside!.  She talked a lot, she got very frustrated about not getting the right words out.

We got her back just before 5pm, just in time for supper, when we opened the door of the unit she said, 'Oh good' and seem relieved to be back ,  she was really tired and they gave her supper in the lounge.  We left her eating her soup, sandwiches and a few crisps

Karen told us that she would like to have 30 Annies and she is great to look after and has a good sense of humour..

(I do notice that the foreign carers are nowhere near as caring as the English girls)

Wednesday 5th October

Teresa phoned to say she had been into see mum and that she still has a tummy upset, stiff neck and a cold, she was rambling quite a lot but she seemed happy in herself, she got them to do a urine test to see if she had another water infection but they said that all was OK. They also want to take a stool sample.

She hasn't been eating very well but Teresa managed to get her to eat a little ice cream.

Mum wanted to know where I was as she said that she hadn't seem me for such a long time!

Thursday 6th October

Mum recognised us as soon as we got in the door and said to Karen, this is my daughter, she was pleased, as always to see us, she told us that her neck was stiff. She looked well and said a few funny things which made us laugh, she mentioned Hawkhurst and work, I asked her if she had been strawberry picking, she looked really puzzled, so I told her that she also used to clean for Mr and Mrs Staypleton-Smith, he eyes lit up and she asked it they were OK.

I noticed that she didn't have her teeth in,  Karen went and got them and we had a giggle as Karen tried to put them in for her, we were talking about us as children and JJ was trying to get mum to write her name down, she could only manage the A. JJ wrote her name down and she recognised Annie but not Ditton, when we told her that her surname was Ditton and that was her married name, she asked us 'why did I get married'!

Mum is really fond of Karen and every time she walked past she tried to get her attention, she was yawning and JJ said 'did you get up early'  and she said 'yes' JJ asked her why she had done that and she replied that she had wanted to 'fart' (not a word she would have used before her illness).

Mum asked us where we lived so I asked her where she lived and she said 'here, I wouldn't go any where else' we left her in the dining room waiting for her lunch.

It was a very amusing visit.

Mum had eaten some supper and also breakfast, mum seems to be a popular resident with all the staff       (Karen told me that they had taken a stool sample but results would take a while to come back)

Friday 7th October

Daph phoned, she was with mum, she asked me if mum had been complaining about her shoulder, I said that she hadn't complained about her shoulder but her neck and that the staff were aware of it.

Daph phoned when she got back, she said that mum was in good spirits and looked really well apart from complaining about her shoulder, she walked with them to the door when they left, Karen came and go her as they were worried that she would follow them out.

Friday 14th October

We saw mum down the corridor trying to get Jasmines attention, I think that she wanted to go to the toilet. We went up to her and said hello to her, she was relieved to see us, I took her to her room, I told Jasmine that she wanted to go to the toilet and she said that she would get a member of staff to help her but I took her myself, she had a terrible upset tummy. I went and asked for a member of  staff to come and change her, eventually someone came.  (I was not particularly happy with the situation and wondered what would have happened if we hadn't come along).

She wanted to sit in her room, it was lovely and sunny, she was really muddily and confused and told us that 'they wouldn't take any notice of me'.

The staff told me that she had been tearful on Tuesday, her tummy upset is beginning to drag her down, I think that she may have yet another UTI.  I spoke to Jasmine and she told me that they had tried to take a water sample in the week but because of her upset tummy it was hard to do one.

We stayed with her for a couple of hours, we sat with her and looked through her photo albums with her and watched a little TV, we took her along to the dining room, she was reluctant to let us go but we told her that we would see her later, it is hard leaving her when she is like this.

I text Teresa and told her mum was muddled and has still got her tummy upset, she said that she was like that the day before when she went in but she had been quite happy, she is going in with Michael on Sunday and will let me know how she is, I told her that we would be going in on Tuesday.

Saturday 15th October

Phoned to see how mum was, I spoke to Tina, she said that mum was quite happy but not eating properly and still had a tummy upset, I told her that when we went in yesterday I had spoken to Jasmine and she said that they had been unable to do a water test because of her tummy upset, she said that she hadn't been told anything about that and thinks that mum should see the doctor and would put her on the list to see him on Tuesday, she said that she would have a word with Daphne to see if she needs to see him earlier.  Tina thinks that she can be given medicine to stop her tummy being upset.  She said that mum does like to spend more time in her room these days.

I told her that we would be in on Tuesday and perhaps we may be able to see the doctor.

Sunday 16th October

Teresa text to say that they had been into see mum today and she still had her tummy upset, she looked very pale but she would be seeing the doctor on Tuesday, she would probably go in again on Wednesday.  I text back and said that I knew that she would be seeing the doctor and we would go in on Tuesday and hopefully be able to see him.

Tuesday 18th October

Mum was in her room having her eye drops put in, she looked a bit sad and talked a lot of rubbish, she thought that the chap on the TV was talking to her, she was a bit muddled, she told us that she was so glad that we were there.  The doctor came in and he prescribed some medication to stop her upset tummy, hopefully they will start to worked quickly and that she gains some energy.

We took her in some sweets, which she enjoyed, the longer we were there the happier she was, we decided that, as she is spending more time in her room we would get her a better TV ( Text Michael and Teresa, Micheal phoned later on and said that getting her a new TV was a good idea) .

We took her along to the dining room to have her lunch and told her we would see her later, she was very sad about us going but when we waved at her through the dining room window she was happy and smiling.

Friday 21st October

We went into Currys in Tunbridge Wells and got mum a new TV with freeview, the old one is not digital and would be obsolete in a few months time.

Tuesday 25th October

Mum was talking to Betty in the dining room, we stood watching her for a while and then I called her and she turned round and was really pleased to see us.  We took her new TV into her room and JJ set it up for her but she hadn't got a clue that it was different! she was pleased that we were with her and was quite happy for us to just sit with her.  She kept trying to to look at my hand and hold it, she kept saying that she was glad that we were there, she said that she was bored, so we took her to Ham Street garden centre, we had a look round and then went into the cafe for cake and a cup of tea she really wasn't interested in either.

When we took her back she asked if we were in Hawkhurst I told her that 'No' this is where you live, I have decided that I will just say 'yes' next time she asks.  When we got back into the unit she was really relieved. Mervyn told her that he had kept her some dinner, we sat her in the lounge and Mervyn brought her dinner into her, we said that we had to go and she said 'are you coming back later' and we said that we would.

Friday 28th October

Phoned and spoke to  Daphne, mum is still having episodes of upset tummy, she had been give 2 tablets today and she was eating little but often, if no better by Tuesday she will get the doctor to see her again, he may want to send her for further investigations.

Daphne says that mum loves her new TV and she is in her room more.  I told her that we would be in on Tuesday and hopefully be able to talk to the doctor again.

Monday 31st October

Teresa phoned to say that she had been in to see mum today and that she was very depressed and she still had a tummy upset, I told her that I had phoned on Friday and that Daphne had said that mum would be put on the list to see the doctor again tomorrow.  Teresa was worried that mum had 'given up' I said that the constant tummy upsets must be awful for her as she has had it for such a long time it must be getting her down and making her depressed.

I told her that we would be going in tomorrow, she said that Michael was away in Italy at the moment so she hadn't seen anyone over the weekend, so she would go in another day this week.

I told her that I would text her tomorrow or leave a message on her answer phone to let her know how mum is.

Wednesday 19 March 2014

Thursday 1st September - 29th September 2011 .. A little bit more of mum is leaving us .

Thursday 1st September 2011

Mum was very distant when we arrived, she was not really very 'with it', she had a catalogue on her lap but she couldn't name any of the things in it, John pointed to an iron and asked her what it was and she said ' it's shit!'.

We took her outside as it was a lovely day but she didn't want to stay out very long, she said that she was chilly, she also said that it didn't seem right!  We took her back in as she said that she was very tired, we found her a nice comfy chair and left her in the lounge and told her to have a nap before lunchtime.

Monday 12th September

We haven't been in to see mum for over a week but had phoned and spoken to Tina who said that she was fine, she had a couple of bad days where she she hated everyone but that's nothing unusual.

She was in the dining room in the armchair, we stood at the door and it took her a few minutes to realise we were there to see her, she looked well and quite happy, she talked a lot and asked me several things that I couldn't understand, I answered yes a couple of times but got caught out saying yes in the wrong place!... She asked me about Uncle Charley and I had to tell her that he had died several years ago.

She did make us laugh when JJ asked her is she could read she looked at him and called him a 'cheeky bugger'.  Unfortunately, Betty then came into the room and took over quite a lot, mum answered her sometimes but most of the time mum looked at her with a bemused look on her face, although Betty can be amusing it can take it's toll on you sometimes.

We asked mum how many children she had, she said that she didn't know so we told her that she had 3, she looked really surprised and said 'have I'  and she said that she didn't know that.  It was tea and cake time while we were there, mum was trying to give her cake away, which we have noticed happening quite a lot with her food, she also is always asking how much she has to pay for it.

We stayed for an hour,  it was very, very hot there which we both found uncomfortable, so we left mum and told her we would see her later, she was quite happy about us going.

Wednesday 21st September

Mum was on her own in the lounge, I walked in and she looked at me and said  'have you come to see me'  I said 'yes, do you know who I am?'. she said . 'you are my darling.......'  I told her that I was her daughter and she said of course you are, she looked really well, she talked a lot but not one sentence made any sense.

She laughed a lot and told us she was pleased to see us, we were watching the TV and she pointed to the screen and said 'Oh! look at that cow' (it was a horse!).  She asked once again where we lived, so JJ asked her where she lived and she said 'here'.  Her attention span is getting less each time we visit, every time someone walked up the corridor her attention moved from us to them.  She said that she hadn't been down there, meaning the corridor, I told her that was where her room was, she said that she didn't go in it, so we asked her where she went to sleep she said that she never went to sleep.

We walked her along to the dining room, everyone we past talked to us and mum was surprised that they knew us, she gets a little jealous when they talk to us and not her.  She was quite happy when we left.

Wednesday 28th September

I phoned and spoke to Daphne to see how mum was, she is fine but she had been suffering from and upset tummy and she was keeping herself to herself and staying in her room, she reassured me that mum was OK . She told me that mum was seeing the chiropodist later on today.  I explained that we had been unable to get in as we didn't have the car for a few days as it was being repaired.

Thursday 29th September

I phoned Michael and asked if I could go in with him to see mum at the weekend as we wouldn't have the car back until next Friday, he said that he would pick me up.  He said that last week he had taken mum around Tescos they had got a cake and then gone to the park, he said that she had mentioned The Moor and said to him that she didn't expect that she would ever go back to her house!

Wednesday 3rd August - Friday 26th August 2011

Wednesday 3rd August 2011

Mum was pleased to see us, she was sitting by the computer desk when we arrived, we sat there with her for a while, she was trying to tell us about someone, when Jessica came storming up the corridor shouting for Daphne, saying that she was spiteful and why had she taken her knitting wool away from her.  Mum looked at her and said ' Oh Christ not again!' apparently they had to take the knitting and wool away from Jessica because she was found with the wool wrapped around her neck!.

We took mum out into the garden, she told us that she had been out but couldn't remember where or who with, but did remember that there was a little boy there..(Michael, Linda, Teresa Lissa and Frankie went in on Saturday and took her to Dobies Garden Centre) ..She was different today, quite quiet.

Thursday 11th August

Mum was looking out of the dining room window when we arrived, she was as usual, pleased to see us, I said to her do you know who this is about John, she said 'Of course I do, I know him more than I do you!'.

We went and sat in the lounge for a while, mum looked really well and seemed fine, she mentioned Michael a few times, I think that in her way she was trying to say about going out with him at the weekend, she said that she had been to the same place and had liked it!.  I told her that yesterday I had spoken to Auntie Nora from Manchester and she had sent her love, her face lit up, I asked her if she remember her, she raised her eyes and said 'of course I do'.

Cynthia came in and asked if mum would like to do some baking, mum said 'Oh Christ', we took her along to the dining room anyway, we helped her do the mixing, she really wasn't that interested in doing it, Cynthia asked her if she would like to go out on the mini bus this afternoon and she said that, yes she would, she seemed quite happy about it, we left her just as they were getting lunch ready to serve.

Wednesday 17th August

It took mum quite a few minutes to realise who we were when we got there today, when she finally did realise it was us she said  'Oh good it's my ............' she couldn't remember who we were.   JJ said to her it's good of us to come and see you isn't it, she looked at me and said, yes, it is, even though I don't know who you are.  I said to her 'mum, I'm your daughter Liz' she said 'I know that!'

We went outside and sat in the garden, mum was saying about when we went to that place, we realised that she was talking about going to the park, so we asked her if she would like to go again and she said 'yes please' so we went and got a wheelchair, we had to sit on the sofa in the reception area for a while as one of the ladies from the other unit was trying to get out of the front door, so they had to lock all the doors and get her back into the unit.

We took mum to Tesco first to choose a cake to take to the park, we had fun and games with the wheelchair as the foot rests kept falling off, so we said to mum 'hold your legs up', which she found really funny, we sat on the bench and ate our cake and she sat looking at the pond for a while.  We took her back and got her ready for lunch, we said to her 'see you later' and she replied 'no, you are staying' we had to tell her that 'no' we had to go and that 'we would see her later'. We told her that Teresa was would be going in tomorrow, she got very tight lipped and said that she thought that we were staying with her.

Friday 26th August

Mum was on her own in the lounge, I stood in the doorway and said hello to her, she put her hand above her eyes and said 'Hello, do I know you?' I said 'It's me, Liz' she said 'Oh! of course it is'.  This is the first time for a while what she has looked really, really well, she talked and talked, not a lot we understood, she told us that they were all very nice to her there and she liked it, her attention span is not good and she gets distracted very quickly, we spent the whole of the visit in the lounge with her at 12.30 we took her along to the dining room to have her lunch.

Daphne told us that the other day mum was sitting at the front while Daphne was working on the computer and Bill, one of the other residents came along, saw mum and went up to her and said 'Hello, what's your name, I like you' poor mum was horrified and asked Daphne what he said, it got her quite flustered, poor Bill, he doesn't usually like the ladies.  Daphne said the look on mums face was priceless.

Tuesday 5th July - Tuesday 26th July 2011 ..The Anti-depressants are starting to work

Tuesday 5th July 2011

Mum was sitting just outside the dining room, as usual, she was pleased to see us, JJ asked her how she was feeling and she said 'bloody awful'.  We decided to take her for a slice of cake and a cup of tea.  We got a wheelchair and took her over to Tesco but the coffee shop was closed for 5 months, as it is being refurbished, so we got some cakes and cold drinks and walked over to the park, we sat on the seat by the pond and she really enjoyed it, she kept saying that she had been there before but she hadn't, we wondered if she was remembering the pond at the bottom of the road where she uses to live.

On the way back we saw the handyman who said that mum had gone out with him this morning to water the garden, he says that he is really fond of mum and they often had a chat and he would really miss her when he left at the end of the month.

When we got back mum recognised the front of the home and said  'shall we go somewhere else' JJ told her that he had to got to work, she looked at him and said ' You liar', she was OK by the time we got back inside, we took her into the dining where all the others were, she got quite jealous when Betty was making a fuss of JJ.

We left her sitting ready for her lunch, we said our goodbyes and we said see you late, she replied, 'when, next year!'

Friday 8th July

Daph phoned to say they had been into see mum and that she was well and pleased to see them, she recognised Dib but couldn't remember Daphs name, they stayed with her for about 2 hours.

Monday 11th July

Michael phoned to say that when they went into see mum on Saturday, Teresa was disgusted with mums shoes, they were very dirty and smelly, she took them home to clean them and put new liners in them, she says that she needs new ones! I told him that it would be best for him and Teresa to get them when they take her out to the shop at the weekend, if they let me know how much they are I will get the money out for them, he also said that Daphne suggested that we get mum some trainers socks to wear with her shoes.

Thursday 14th July

Mum was talking to Jessica and Enrika when we arrived, JJ called  'Annie'  she turned round and was really excited to see us, her first words were, where shall we go?, we took her into the lounge, I noticed that mums hair needed a good brush but couldn't find her brush, (I must take in a couple of new ones when we next go in)

Teresa had put new liners in mums shoes but when we went to put mums shoes on they weren't there. Karen helped us look for them and we found them under her bed.

She looked relaxed and happy today, she was happy to see us and told us a couple of times that she was so glad that we had gone in to see her today.  Cynthia came in the lounge and asked mum if she would like to make some cakes, mum said, No, but we encouraged her to go along and join in, which she did (JJ did most of it).

A new lady called Lillian joined mum and they did cake making together, mum had lost her glasses, again, we had only walked from the lounge to the dining room, Karen took mum to see if she had put them down the front of her blouse!, then while we were talking she put her hand up her sleeve and pulled out her glasses!

She mentioned a couple of  times about going to the park, she had really enjoyed it and remembered it, which was a surprise, I told her that I would pack a picnic next time and we will do it again.

Wednesday 20th July

We have not been able to go into see mum for a few days as JJ has a really bad sore throat and cold, I phoned to see how mum was and spoke to Daphne, she said that mum was really good and that the anti-depressants are working, she said that she would tell mum that I had phoned and would give her my love.

Friday 22nd July

JJ was a lot better so we went into see mum this morning, she was sitting by the computer desk and her face lit up when we walked in, she was very jolly and happy.  She said that Teresa had been in and she had been to her house with her and then said she couldn't really remember if she had or not.  She was very talkative, as usual she was listening to everyone elses conversations as well as ours.

She didn't want to join in with the cake making, we stayed with her for a couple of hours, she was quite content when we left.

(I took in  2 new hair brushes and some knee high stocking type socks)

Monday 25th July

Picked up Bett and took her with us to see mum, mum was sitting with Enrika waiting to have her bath, Justina got her dressed and said that they would give her a bath later before she goes to bed.  We took her into the garden as it was a lovely day.  I took a flask and had made some cakes,  It was lovely to sit outside and mum was really jolly and happy, she was really pleased to see Bett.  We stayed with her for about 2 hours.  It was a really lovely visit.

Mums eye looked a bit gunky, I did tell Daphne before we left.

Tuesday 26th July

Daph phoned to say they had been into see mum, they took Bobbi and Chloe with them.  Mum was in her room and was just going along to the lounge to listen to the chap who had come in to play the organ, as it was entertainment day, she was really good and happy to see them all, they all went in the lounge with her and stayed to listen to the entertainment.

Thursday 13 March 2014

Monday 6th June - Monday 27th June..Mum getting very depressed

Monday 6th June 2011

We decided to go in and see mum, when we arrived she was looking out of the window, we asked her if she saw us coming and she said that she likes to see if anyone is coming in to see her, we also took Herbie (the dog) to see her today, they were both pleased to see each other, we sat in the lounge and Herbie sat on her lap.

Mum told me that she felt 'bloody awful' today, when I asked if it was because she didn't feel well, she said that 'no' she didn't and that she could come and live with us, I told her that it wouldn't be allowed, she asked why not, I didn't know what to say, If I could I would have brought her home to look after her but I know that I wouldn't be able to manage.

She talked a lot but not a lot made sense but she seemed happy in her own way.  We took her into the dining room where all the other ladies made a fuss of Herbie, it is nice to see some of the ones who don't usually talk, smile when they saw Herbie

We left her at 12, just as as they were going to have their lunch.

Friday 10th June

Charley went in to see mum today, he said that she was pleased to see him, he took her some chocolates and her face lit up when she saw them, she asked him if we were all OK and he reassured her that we were.

Monday 13th June

Mum was in the lounge on her own when we got to the home, she was pleased to see us and told the carer that we were her mum and dad, I said 'no' mum, I am your daughter, she looked at JJ and said well who are you then!.  She talked no stop, not a lot we understood, she looked well and happy.

Tuesday 14th June

Daph Mary (mums sister) and Auntie Maureen went in to see mum today, Mary phoned in the evening to say that she was disgusted with mums toenails and thinks that she has a fungal infection on her toe, she said that she had words with Tina and asked her to put mums name down to see the chiropodist next time he is in the home, he is due in the next couple of days and visits the home every 6 weeks, Mary said that she didn't think that was enough but I told her that was how often I took mum to help the aged foot clinic. (the staff are not allowed to cut the residents toenails)

Wednesday 15th June

Phoned and talked to Tina about Mary asking for mum to see the chiropodist and she said that mum was down to see him when he comes in, I ask if she could see if mum could see him every 6 weeks and she assured me that she was in the book to see him every time he comes in.

Sunday 19th June

Teresa phoned to say that she had been into see mum on Friday and with Michael today and she told me that mum had been out on an outing on Thursday.

She was very tearful and Jasmine said that she had another UTI, also Tina said that they thought that she was depressed and she is down to see the doctor next time he comes in.

They took her to the Outlet Centre and she enjoyed looking at all the shops and people walking by.

Monday 20th June

We managed to talk to Tina on the way in to see mum, I asked if mum had seen the doctor, she said that he doesn't go in until tomorrow and mum was on the list to see him.  She said that mum gets very tearful as she thinks that no one has been in to see her, she will forget that we have been in by this afternoon.  I asked if it was the next stage of the illness and she said that it was, she suggested that we read everything we can about Dementia as it goes through many different stages.  Mum could get aggressive, which she has shown signs of doing, she threw a glass of water at Tina when she didn't get her attention, mum does like to have their full attention, we told Tina that she has always been a bit like that and likes to have lots of praise given to her, she said that they do try and do that but like most people with dementia mums mood can change in a couple of minutes.  Tina told us that everyone deals with this in their own way i.e.children and family of the person with dementia. She said that for instance, if I got cross with her and shouted at her, mum would have forgotten about it it in a few minutes and it would be me that felt bad, It was good to have a chat with Tina.

Mum was sitting by the desk she was very happy to see us and had a few tears, she said that she keeps crying and when JJ said to her 'whys that Annie' she said that she thought that she had gone, I asked her where she thought that she had gone and mum pointed to the ceiling, JJ made a joke and said that she wasn't going up there she was going down there and she laughed, we managed to make her laugh quite a lot during the visit.  She tried to tell us about going to the shops with Micheal and Teresa yesterday, she got cross a few times when she couldn't think of the right words.

She hinted about coming to our house but we had to explain that it was too far and that she didn't enjoy the journey last time she came and that it would be best to go out for a cup of tea and a cake somewhere, she didn't seem very impressed with that idea, we took her into the dining room to have her lunch.

Daphne mentioned that mums slippers were too tight although mum said that it was her teeth! Mum does like to listen to any conversation that going on and Jenny the cleaner said that she calls her Mrs Nosy.

Thursday 23rd June

I phoned and spoke to Daphne regarding mum seeing the doctor she said that mum had been put on Floroxide which is an anti depressant, it will take about 2 months to take full effect, she said that mum had been fine yesterday and today.

Monday 27th June

We took some cakes and drinks in so that we could sit out in the garden, It was a beautiful day, mum talked a lot and said that she was so glad that we had gone in to see her, it was strange because she suddenly said that she was different and  did we think so too, I asked her in what way was she different and she that she was nasty sometimes.   I told her that she couldn't help it and in what way did she think that she was nasty and she said that she says things and when I asked her what she said I say 'arse holes', we did have to laugh and so did she, she also said that she thought that she was on her 'last legs' and didn't think that she would go to work any more!.

We sat outside for nearly 2 hours, when we took her back in she decided that she wanted to have a nap in the lounge, we told her that we would see her later.  We had a word with Tina on the way out and she said that it is very frustrating for mum as she knows that she is changing but she doesn't understand why, her verbal skills are not very good so she can't get out what she wants to say.

Wednesday 12 March 2014

Monday 2nd May - 31st May 2011.. A Muddly time

Monday 2nd May 2011

We picked Bett up and got into mum at 11am, she was sitting with Jessica in the lounge, she was pleased to see Bett. There was a new lady there and she was shouting and causing quite a commotion she had moved her chair into the middle of the corridor and shouted at everyone who walked past, I was surprised that it hadn't upset mum, she seem to take it all in her stride.

Mum made us laugh as Bett had a red cardigan on and mum said to her 'what strawberry are you?', when we laughed she did too ..I don't think she realised what we were laughing at though.

The chap who goes in everyday to be with his wife was quite chatty he is usually very grumpy, he told us that his wife had been there for 3 years and he has seen some things while she had been there!

Mum told us that she had a bath and it was funny..... Apparently Karen gave her a bath one of the other carers was going to do it but mum insisted that Karen did it ... (Karen did admit that mum was her
favourite, I told her she was mums favourite too)

We took mum along to the dining room as we thought that it would be quieter, but the lady who laughs and mutters to herself followed us in, she was swearing quite a lot, JJ went over to her and she went very quiet Betty was talking to her and when she snatched the wipes away from the carer ~Betty told her that she was an evil old woman..

The carer tried to get mum to wipe her hands before lunch but poor mum just couldn't understand what he wanted her to do, so he did it for her, he said that he liked mum as she has a really good sense of humour and laughs a lot.

We left mum having her lunch.

Monday 9th May

Mum saw us through the window when we arrived, I went and paid some more pocket money to Clare for mum and when we got in the unit mum was walking down the corridor asking us where had we been. She was really muddled, she said shall we go upstairs, she looked quite mucky she had a dirty top and dirty skirt on, we went into her room and I changed her clothes, I hung up a lot of clothes into the wardrobe and sorted out the clothes that needed to go into the wash (Daphne said that she had a bath this morning but seeing the state of her I don't think that she did).

Mum wanted to go out, so Daphne found a wheelchair.  Jenny the cleaner said that mum had been tearing up all her photos in the albums and thought that it would be best if we took them home, I said that 'no' I didn't want to do that and could we put the albums on top of the wardrobe as we like to go through them with her when we visit.  She had also pulled of the stands at the back of the photo frames...

We walked over to Tesco coffee shop for cake and cup of tea, she liked going out but she was very muddly and we couldn't understand a lot of what she was saying, Daphne said that she had been weepy for the last few days.  When we took her back she said do you have to keep bringing me back to this place.  I asked Daphne if she thought that mum might have another urine infection, she said that she would do a test.

I tried to talk to mum about sleeping in her bed and not in her armchair but it was hard to understand her today, we promised that we would be back to see her in a couple of days.

Tuesday 10th May

I phoned to see how mum was, they said that Daphne was off today so I spoke to Jasmine, she said that mum was fine today, she had her breakfast and was sitting in the dining room in the armchair, I asked her if Daphne had done the urine test and she told me that there wasn't any notes about it but she would do one.

Thursday 12th May

When we got to mum it took her a while to realise who we were, but then the penny dropped and she was so pleased to see us, we took her into the dining room where Cynthia was making cakes with the other ladies, she gave some mixture to mum for her to join in but she pushed it away saying that she didn't want to do it, so JJ and I did it, and got her to mix it when we had finished, we have noticed that if things are a little hard to do she just gives up and wont try to do it..

While we were talking to her she burst into tears and said that she didn't think that we were going in today, I gave her a cuddle and told her that I loved her and of course we would go in and see her as much as we can, JJ told her that he would go in everyday if he could but it isn't possible to do that, Cynthia came over and told mum that she was lucky as we come in a lot to see her and asked her if she would like to go out in the bus this afternoon for an outing to Dover, at first she said that 'no' she didn't want to but we persuaded her to go, the trouble was she thought that we would be going too. I had to explain to her that we couldn't go with her, she got a little annoyed and started to say that we always say that, I had to say to her that 'no' that wasn't fair to say that, she ended up laughing.

Jasmine came to see us and said that they had done a urine test and mum had an infection and that she was on antibiotics...

Wednesday 18th May

Teresa phoned to say that she had been into see mum yesterday and that she was OK, she had been talking about JJ, saying that he is so nice and that he will do anything for her, and his wife is quite nice too!!!.  She told Teresa that she enjoyed us going in.

The home have asked if we could take all the photos away that are in the frames as she has taken them all to bits and there is still a piece of glass that they cannot find...(we thought we would look for a large frame to put them in and so they could be put on the wall)

Mum has been flashing her boobs again, when Karen said to her, Annie that isn't nice, mum said, why not they are only tits!  I will ask them to put a full length petticoat on her when they get her dressed so she can't do it.

Mum having her hair done on Friday so will phone before we go to see what is the best time to go in.

Friday 20th May

Went in a bit later as Daphne thought that mum was having a perm, but she wasn't just a cut, shampoo and set.  She was back in the unit when we got there,  JJ gave her a cuddle and she burst into tears, she thought that we weren't going in to see her today but we soon got her smiling again.

I got her fleece and we went out into the garden on the way through she saw Salome and mum said to her 'what are you doing standing there doing nothing?' mum has such a way with words, Salome said that they often have a banter together, she also talked to the receptionist  but she thought that she was the hairdresser.

We sat outside for quite a while she loved the roses, she asked about Michael and said that he wouldn't go and see her, JJ said that when he saw him he would give him a slap she said and give him one from me too.. It got really hot and she started to worry about going back inside, when we got back Jessica was coming back from the hairdressers and mum said that she didn't like her.  Karen took her into lunch and she said see you later and she was fine about us going.

Her new glasses had been delivered and they look nice, they have her name engraved on the frame but wonder how long it will be before she can't find them..

I took all of the photos in frames out of her room and brought them home.

Tuesday 24th May

We took mum to Ham Street garden centre, when we first got to the home she was wondering about saying 'I was looking for you'..We went into the cafe and she had a large slice of cake and a cup of tea, she really enjoyed it.

We wheeled her round and looked at all the flowers, she desperately wanted to buy an orchid, so we got her an artificial one, she thought that it was real as it looks good...We think that she thought that she was coming home with us but had to explain that the last time she came she complained that it was such a long way and that she got very tired, she said 'Oh did I, I don't remember'.  She talked a lot, most of which we couldn't understand.  When we pulled into the car part she said, this is it, and went in quite happily.  Daphne gave her antibiotics as she has yet another urine infection.

We stayed with her until she was just about to have her lunch.

She mentioned several times while we were out how good we both were, she even remembered my name when we first got there but 10mins afterwards she had forgotten it.

P.S. glasses lost already!

Friday 27th May

Daph text to say that they had been in to see mum today and that all was fine.

Tuesday 31st May

Mum was looking out of the window when we go there, she was wearing a blouse over the top of her t-shirt which was far to small for her, I took it of off her and saw that it didn't belong to her so gave it to Mervyn for him to sort out, he said she often picks up things that are left lying around.  She was pleased to see us and told us that she had been to Tunbridge Wells to get some money and then said that, no, not money as I've got some upstairs, she was in good spirits talked a lot of nonsense but she was happy.

We stayed for a couple of hours and then took her into the dining room for lunch and sat her at the table with Joyce and Britt..no Betty today as she is in hospital, Mervyn thinks that she may have a UTI...

Tuesday 11 March 2014

Monday 4th - Saturday 30th April 2011

Monday 4th April 2011

We picked mum up and took her to Ham Street garden centre, she was so pleased, pleased, pleased to go out, she was really good, although she did look very pale, we managed to get a wheelchair in the car which made things a lot easier, we got her back just before dinner time.

We told her that next week we would pick her up and bring her here for lunch, phoned Daph and asked if they would like to come over too, she offered to take mum home afterwards

Tuesday 5th April

Teresa phoned  to say that she had been ill with flu and that she had also got conjunctivitis, but hopefully she would be going in to see mum on Friday, she would definitely be going in on Saturday.

Tuesday 12th April

We got to mum about 10ish she looked quite happy and was sitting with Doris one of the other ladies, she was pleased to see us, she introduced me to Doris and said this is my ermmmmmmmm I prompted her and said daughter.. Doris said 'pleased to meet you' ( we have talked to her every time we have gone in to the home.)

Mum was really pleased that she was coming here and chatted all the way home in the car, she told me that I was 'a good girl, mind you she also talked a lot of nonsense, she was really good and was happy to see Daph, Dib and Bobbi..

It was lovely to have her here for lunch and everyone being here with us.

Just before Daph took her back to turned very pale, on the way back to the home mum told Daph that she was very tired and that it was a long way (Daph goes a different way to the home which is a lot longer than the way we go) she told Daph that she would really like it if she could stay with us...

She was OK but very, very tired, I don't think that we will be able to bring her here again as the journey is just too much for her.

Tuesday 19th April

I phoned Teresa and she said that she went into see mum on Thursday and mum had gone out on an outing to Folkestone. She also went in with Lissa on Saturday, she was tearful but only for a few minutes and then she was fine. She had her eyes tested and was waiting for her new glasses.

She is hoping to go in again on Thursday or Friday and will be going in on Saturday, she said that Michael hadn't been in for a couple of weeks but hopefully he will be going in of Saturday.

Wednesday 20th April

We took a flask of tea and some cakes with us and sat in the garden with mum, it was a beautiful day and very hot, she looked really well and enjoyed sitting outside but she kept saying she was uncomfortable, next time we must remember to take a cushion for her.  She didn't ask once about going out.

Daphne said that mum had been knocking on the door to get out so Salome let her go in the reception and she sat on the sofa by the door while Daphne worked at the computer, she was very happy to be somewhere different, she told Daphne that she was her grand daughter ..

We left her in the dining room having her lunch.

Easter Sunday 24th April

Daph text to say that she had gone in with Dib and Vic go see mum and that they had sat in the garden with her for over an hour and that she was good.

Easter Monday 25th April

Mum was standing by the computer desk when we got there it took her a while to realise who we were, we went and sat on the bench just outside the lounge she said that she was so glad that we had come and she thought that we had found someone else ?? I asked her about Daph and the others going in to see her yesterday she said that she thought that it was 'ages ago'  But she did tell JJ that she has had lots of visitors.

We decided to move out into the garden as a couple of the residence had complain about they were chilly with the window of the lounge doors open, I got a cushion from Karen for mum to sit on and we took out into the garden, it was a beautiful day and she enjoyed being out in the sunshine.  Laura and John turned up, she kept asking John if she had met him before but she did  know Laura, she really perked up and had a good giggle when John put his hat and sunglasses on her, she really lapped up the attention.   At 12.30 we took her in for her to have her lunch, she asked us if we were coming back later and I told her we were.

She asked about Michael several times during the visit and Karen says she often asks if he is coming in today and that she gets quite tearful about it.. Karen said that she said to her that yes he would be in later, mum called her a liar.

Saturday 30th April

While we were out walking with Herbie I had a phone call on my mobile from Teresa , she asked me when we were going in to see mum, I told her that we would be going in on Monday and we were also taking Bett into see her too, she said that mum was worried about me and would I speak to her, mum asked me if I was OK as she thought that I was dead!...I told her that I was OK and not to worry and we would be coming in to see her on Monday she said and your husband, I told her of course he would be coming in to see her too.

Teresa said that there were a couple of ladies that are upsetting mum and they are taking mum into the small unit for part of the day, one of the ladies is being moved to a different home on Tuesday...

Sunday 20th March - Wednesday 30th March 2011 ..Mum getting tearful

Sunday 20th March 2011

Teresa phoned to say that mum was very tearful yesterday, she was waiting by the door when they got there, she looked at Michael and said to him that she thought that he was dead!, she was very confused and upset, she said that she thought that mum was trying to say, in a round about way, that she didn't think that she would end up in a home.

Teresa had a word with Tina to see if mum needed any medication as she just keeps crying, she said that if mum was crying all the time, which she said that she wasn't, that they would have to see the GP.  Tina said that a lot of them were upset because of not being able to see relatives when the home was closed due to the winter flu virus, there is also a lady that goes out a lot and perhaps that is upsetting her!

Michael and Teresa decided to take her out for a while, it was a bit of a struggle but they managed to get her in Michaels Discovery, mum said to them 'does Liz know we are coming' Teresa told her that they were not coming to see me. They took her to the new garden centre, and managed to get a wheel chair at the centre, they have a nice restaurant so they took her for tea and cake.... Teresa thought that mum looked very pale... Michael seemed to think that she looked OK!

Teresa said she thinks that mum likes a lot of attention and doesn't like it when others get more attention than her from the carers. She said that she is going in again tomorrow

John and I both think that the new lady, Jessica, may be upsetting mum, as she keeps asking mum where she lived and how long had she been there, she told mum that she hasn't got a home anymore as her family had given it all to the charity shop.

Phoned Daph to see if she was going in this afternoon and she is, I told her about Jessica and she said that she would see how things are and ring later.   Daph phoned to say that mum wasn't too bad when they went to see her, no tears, but she couldn't remember Michael and Teresa going in to see her yesterday, she said she went somewhere but not with them! she was having lunch when they got there, she was trying to take her blouse off so she had to go and get Tina to put it back on, she said that she asked Daphne about mum keep crying and she said that depression is part of the illness and if it keeps going on they will see the GP about giving her some medication.  They said in the lounge and mum talked a lot and they understood bits of what she was telling them, she said that she had talked to Tina and she said that she didn't think that mum was very happy there, will see what Teresa says tomorrow.

Teresa said that Tina needs information about mum regarding the census form and she thinks that I would know more than she does.

Monday 21st March

Teresa phoned she had been into see mum today and that she was still weepy, Tina told her that she keeps pulling the button off of her cardigan and putting them in her mouth, so could we get her some zipped up cardigans instead of ones with buttons, she also suggested we get some polo type shirts... She will be away for a week so will not be going in to mum.

Tuesday 22nd March

We went into Maidstone and got mum a new cardigans, a fleece jacket, some polo shirts and petticoats.

Wednesday 23rd March

Mum was sitting in the dining room when we got there, she was really pleased to see us, she thought that we were going to take her out, she said that she was going to cry when we got there but she cheered up after a while.  I completed the census form and gave it back to Tina.

Mum talked a lot but not a lot made any sense, we took her out into the garden for a while which she really enjoyed, when we took her back inside we sat in the dining room for a while, we left her waiting for her lunch and when we left she said 'hurry back'

Mum has a eye appointment on Monday and I asked if Karen could take her and mum is very fond of her.

Thursday 24th March

Got mums bank statement this morning and noticed that no pension had been paid into her account since 22nd February, phoned to see what had happened they didn't know why it had happened and said that it would be sorted and the money would be in her account within 3-5 days .

Tuesday 29th March

Daph phoned to say that she had been into see mum with Mary today, she was a bit tearful but not too bad, mum said to them 'let's get out of here' they got a wheelchair and took her to the coffee shop in Tescos .. when they took her back she told them that she lived there now.

Wednesday 30th March

Karen took mum to the eye appointment on Monday and all OK she hasn't got to go back until next year. Karen said that mum was disappointing as she thought that she was going to Hastings!

She was in the lounge when we got there, she was a bit red eyed and Daphne said that she has been very tearful, mum thought that we were taking her out, she wasn't happy when we told her that we couldn't take her out today, she pointed to me and said 'she always says that' (I find it quite upsetting when she does that, it feels like she blames me!), she keeps saying that she could come to our house for a little while and that she could walk there.  We stayed for a couple of hours, it was a difficult visit.

We left her in the lounge as they were just going to serve dinner.   Sar, one of the carers  had got some of the musical instruments out and was trying to get mum interested in joining in but mum couldn't get the hang of it

Daphne said that she heard mum talking to one of the other ladies and heard her say that they just dump us here...
